gah!

I'm tired, that's all that needs to be said right now. Finals week.

Hopefully it'll be the act of writing, not what I write about that'll matter to me in a couple years.

It took me five minutes to get to this site to post. Thanks blogger. You're so fast, I can't keep up.

no thanks blogger

let me just say, that blogger is no longer fun. i can't send photos anymore from my phone; i can't even sent text from my phone. i can't upload photos from the web. it's terrible and i dont enjoy it. i do this to record events, not stress over another silly thing in my life. so thanks blogger - one happy user at a time.

a note on comprehension

i thought it would be fitting to say, thank you so much for your support - and more importantly, for your understanding. both of these incomparable qualities rarely found in humans have even more rarely been displayed by you. the fine line between understanding and compassion, has not been crossed. to be frank, i don't think it's ever been contemplated. how nice to know that when i am out of sorts, so few people have the temperament to shed all else and try to comprehend what i battle with. so thanks. and please try not to strain yourself.

Wooot

So I'm finally done with school! I just caught a cold, so I guess I'm not as excited as I should be. I got hte summer internship, decided not to take a summer class, and registered for five classes next semester. Right now, that's about all.

I have work in an hour and a half, so I guess I'll go shower.

RIP Alternative Press

The Village Voice is gone now too. What a shame the media has become in this country. Anything alternative or varying in view is being eaten up by massive corporate owners. Why do all our papers have to be the same? How alternative can it really be anymore? This leaves no room for progressive politics or public discourse.

RIP Village Voice.

Till we have faces...

Forget to mention that I finished reading "Till We Have Faces". I really wanted to note this too, because I was just entralled by it.

I finally discovered what the title means in the final pages. The book concerns itself with the presense/or not of the gods, love, and life/death. A character, Orual, has put a charge before the gods, but receives no answer. She then discovers that the questions that humans have - which seem to matter then - will only die away once we have foudn ourselves for what we truly are - and only then are our questions answered by knowing ourselves. I think she also learns that we cannot see ourselves until we let others see themselves, or until we see what they've become. And finally, there is a difference between scared and profane love, or selfless and selfish.

Here are a few quotes from the book:

"The complaint was the answer. To have heard myself making it was to be answered ... When the time comes to you at which you will be forced at last to utter the speech which has lain at the center of your soul for years, which you have, all that time, idiot-like, been saying over and over, you'll not talk about joy of words. I saw well why the gods do not speak to us openely, nor let us answer. Till that word can be dug out of us, why should they hear the babble that we think we mean? how can they meet us face to face till we have faces?"

All around a great book. It's so nice to read something with meaning.

busy busy

Today has just been full of stuff, not that I'm complaining. What better way is there to follow a series of down days than a series of up days?

Work was definitely interesting this morning. Dawn has been out on vacation and Jeff thought it would be appropriate to act ghetto, following the theme of Busta Rhymes coming to campus. He said he's got some major dirt for me to write a story on for the paper, but that he can't tell me right now. I unfortunately won't know until Tuesday. You can't just say you have dirt and then not tell me! Guh!

After work I went to go visit my professor from last year's English 102 class. I finally gave him some stuff to read and critique, and he set me up with another girl that likes to write - Jackie. So we're sending each other stuff back and forth I guess, which will be nice. It's been so long since I had someone to critique my stuff, that's not a teacher and not my boyfriend.

But, apart from that, I started work on the Libby story. It looks good so far, I think. We'll see how it goes.

It's only four yet. More to happen later.

Spring is finally here.

50% the wisdom than before...

I had my wisdom teeth out Thursday. I only had two of them out, the troublesome ones, so now I only have half the wisdom I did before.

Also, I've been enjoying the days off. I had Thursday off for obvious reasons. Then Friday I chose to take off too. Again today, I had to work this morning, but I've been relatively inactive. It's so nice to loaf around, read, write, do whatever I want to do. It's amazing - how nice to have this freedom always.

Jill just made fun of my tummy : (

Tomorrow is Cullen's baptism. We had to shop today for a shirt and tie for him and he was soooo picky. He didn't want a white shirt, it was too plain. He didn't want a blue tie, he wanted a pink one. Who knew he was so picky about clothes? Him! Lol, I wouldn't be surprised if he was gay.

I made a cake for his party tomorrow. The dog licked part of it, but no one has to know ; )

Much more later. I don't feel like being online. (Think I'll go do some sit-ups)

enough

wow...i am really angry today and i don't know why.

maybe i'm over tired, or maybe everyone is doing incredibly stupid things today. my dad is mad at me because i didn't call his wife about some stupid movie she dropped off at my house. apparently i didn't call her because i'm not responsible, but why is it always my responsibility to babysit everyone else?

i'm sick of it.

4.01.2006

april fools!

So I just spent six hours reading on the couch. And now I'm cold...as I always am if I stop moving for 20 mins. Current book, you might ask, "Till We Have Faces" by C.S. Lewis. [Random note: his minddle name was Staples - and that's not an April Fools joke.] If you have a chance, I recommend reading it. The plot's a little slow so far, but it addresses all sorts of questions about death, existence, and balance, while retelling the myth of Cupid and Pysche. Not sure yet if I'm wild about it, only on chapter nine.

What a strange day, though. I can't help feeling that it's Sunday already and my weekend is gone. Tackling the project of taxes today, which stresses everyone out. Sadly, being a dependent, filing taxes involves relying on my father to file his. So, I wait.

But that's about it. Did I mention that The Record is up on the site? I got sixty hits today, which is nice. [The inevitable April Fools joke prevails. I only got five hits.]

All the best.

graduating on time...

After seeing my advisor on Wednesday, it might be possible to graduate in two years. There's a course i need to take very soon and it's being offered this summer. It's also writing intensive, so the summer would be a great time to concentrate on just one class. However, tuition is $181 per credit hour - the class counts towards 3 credit hours - and i won't receive any financial aid. But, 300 level and up classes count towards upper division courses, which i need a lot of.

If there's a reason i can't take it, (despite that my registration isn't until April 20th) i can also take some of my gen. ed. over the summer. But those classes tend to be so easy; I'd rather tackle something challenging.

Hopefully that'll work out. I just emailed Niman to see if there was a way to reserve a spot in the class for me. And i agreed to take the summer internship with Maria White. And i agreed to work at the box office this summer. All of that will work out, I just hope that I'll still have some time in early May off and August to visit Alex.

Guh, too much to remember. I also have to mail out that scholarship information before i forget. Still have to do taxes...

More later.

the onion...no wait, the radish?

So the April Fools Issue came out today; we emulated The Onion, but called it The Radish. It turned out much better than I thought it would, and much funnier. I'm going to play around with my Web site tonight, and hopefully figure out how to post the newspaper with Flash. We'll see.

More later.
